Start
Keep all the files together in one folder, for example Documents › BURHA LUIT. Do not run the app from inside the zip file.
Double-click the Start file for your computer. You can also right-click BURHA-LUIT-2.0.html and open it with Chrome or Edge.
Mac, first time only: the Mac checks files that came from the internet. On macOS 14 or earlier, right-click Start BURHA LUIT (Mac).command, choose Open, then Open again. On macOS 15 or later, double-click it once, press Done, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and press Open Anyway. Or simply open BURHA-LUIT-2.0.html with Chrome.
Windows: if a blue box says “Windows protected your PC”, press More info, then Run anyway.
On the welcome screen choose English or অসমীয়া at the top right. You can change it at any time from the top bar.
The start files only open the app in Chrome or Edge. If Chrome or Edge is already your main browser, simply double-click BURHA-LUIT-2.0.html. You can also use BURHA LUIT without this folder at aank.org/apps/burha-luit/ and install it from there.
Full step-by-step guides with screenshots are at aank.org/apps/burha-luit/. Chrome or Edge gives the most: screen windows go to the projectors by themselves, and you can choose the sound output inside the app.
Your first show in five steps
Press My shows, type a name and press Create new show. Fill in Production with the play's details, cast, crew and rehearsal plan.
Press New scene for each scene. Select a scene, then drag music, videos and pictures onto the list. Each file becomes a cue in that scene.
Press Import surtitles and paste the script. Each line becomes a surtitle cue. Add a second language for two lines on screen, for example Assamese with English below.
Open Screens, press Open for screen 1, move it to the projector and click it once for full screen.
Switch to Run and press Space for GO.
To learn quickly, choose File › Open the sample show and press GO a few times.
Cue options
Cue number: your own numbering, such as 12 or 12.5.
Colour: mark cues by type.
Wait before starting: the cue starts a few seconds after GO.
GO next cue by itself: link cues so they follow one another.
Hotkey: a letter or number key plays the cue at any moment.
Armed: untick it and GO passes the cue by. A disarmed cue with a hotkey suits a sound effect that can come at any moment.
Acts and scenes: headings that GO skips. Go to scene jumps straight to any scene.
Edit sound: trim the start and end, fade in and out, set level and tone. Your original file is never changed.
Projectors and screens
Set the laptop display to Extend, not Mirror. Windows: press Win+P and choose Extend. Mac: System Settings › Displays, turn mirroring off.
In Screens, choose how many screens you use (1, 2 or 3) and where the surtitles go.
In Chrome or Edge press Find projectors, then Open for each screen. In other browsers drag each screen window to its projector.
Click a screen window once, or press F, for full screen. Then click back on the control window.
Sound
Settings › Sound: choose the output (laptop speakers, headphones, or a USB sound card to the mixer). In browsers other than Chrome and Edge, choose it in the computer sound settings.
Set each cue's level in the editor. While the show runs, use the faders under Playing now.
Esc fades out all sound. Press it twice to stop at once.
Keeping and moving your work
Shows are saved by themselves in the browser on this computer. Open BURHA LUIT in the same browser every time.
To make a backup or take a show to another computer, use File › Pack show with media. You get one .luit file with the cues, settings, production details and all the media.
On the other computer, open BURHA LUIT and choose File › Open a show file.
Make a backup the day before every performance, and before clearing the browser's data or moving the app to another folder.
